FAMILY TREE GREENWAY(INDIA)
| This is John Anderson Greenway,grandson of Samuel Greenway a Printer& Merchant,who established a flourishing business in and around Cawnpore and Calcutta,India.John was born in 1843 and married and anglo indian girl Rebecca Mathew Browne in 1886.He died in 1918 at Ambala. His father Edward Francis Greenway was the owner of a large indigo factory at Najjafgar,and also attached to the Merchant firm of Greenway Brothers" of Cawnpore. |  |
His Grandmother Rose Ann Greenway was taken hostage,at the Cawnpore Massacre in 1857 along with many members of her family,and numerous other woman and children. She is mentioned in several accounts of the massacre, as conveying a message from the Nana Sahib to the garrison at Cawnpore to surrender.They were all later slaughtered by the rebels forces. | ||
